Jamie and Clark | Bellingham Wedding Proposal

Okay, so we have photographed a few different proposals in our day and it’s so much fun!!  But this was a fun and unique story that we had a blast being a part of:-).

Well, I could tell you what happened but I’d rather let Jamie tell the story (worth the read) -

If any of you know me well, you know I’m slightly obsessed with the fall season– fall trees, fall leaves, and fall colors. Clark agreed to satisfy my request and informed me he scheduled a photo shoot for last night (Thursday October 25th). However, on Thursday October 18th after work, he showed me his friends company Facebook page which said

“Alright friends. Here’s the deal-yo! Meg and I are mentoring a photographer tomorrow and doing some shooting together. So are you a couple we could photograph? We need a couple that’s available for a shoot from like 5-6ish. Send me a private message if you are interested! Woot.”

Acting in my typical frugal ways, I was all for us volunteering so that we could still get our photos and not have to pay for them. Clark beat me to it and showed me the message history between him and Evantide Photography which to me meant he clearly wasn’t planning anything (yes, I was quick to jump to that conclusion– I realize that now). So, Friday October 19th after work we met up with Aaron & Meg (Evantide Photography) and Brandy (the “new/mentee” photographer) at Woodstark Farm which is a public park that is not well known off Chucaknut Drive. It had been raining all day but about two minutes after we pulled up it stopped and we were able to avoid getting drenched.

For about the next 23 minutes while Brandy was being “mentored” Clark and I posed and listened to cues but mainly we were in our own little world, just soaking it up. We ended up by a rock formation overlooking the cove with all of my favorite elements– trees, water, mountains, and of course Clark. As soon as Clark sat his adorable little tush down on a rock– out came the sun. I realize this sounds too perfect/cheesy/ridiculous and as much as it was all of those things, it is also the truth. We really just lucked out.

Aaron decided to then “add in the use of props” so he brought Clark a card which Clark was supposed to read and then act out whatever emotion was on the card… until at the last minute Aaron handed it to me. I was a little hesitant because I am an abhorrent actor but I went ahead and began opening the card– only to find a picture of Clark and I holding hands during a sunset that was taken a few months ago.

For the first time, it began to dawn on me what was going on. As I opened the card I found a letter which took me some time to get through given Clark’s neat yet small handwriting and the tears in my eyes. At the end of the letter he told me I could now read the card which simply had “Will you marry me?”. At this point my head was exploding and I was trying to comprehend all of the complexity and depth he went through to actually surprise me (given my very nosy and suspicious natural state). He took my hand, said “I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you”. And as he went down on one knee he continued “this is just a temporary ring until your ring arrives but will you marry me?”.

I think I blacked out about four minutes prior to this part… Not really but I was totally taken aback that I forgot to respond and just stared at him! As he began to put the ring on my finger he clarified “That is a yes, right?”. The question brought me out of my stupor and I don’t have any idea how many times I said yes afterwards… And so, the whole thing was documented by three professional (yes, Brandy was a decoy and is actually a fabulous photographer) photographers in one of the most gorgeous settings I could imagine.

*Aaron here:  This is an image from Brandy Kiger of Jamie saying, “Wait, are you even a photographer really?” Yep, Brandy’s a pro:-).

I cannot articulate how blessed, humbled, loved, adored, and just ridiculously important Clark makes me feel on a daily basis– not to mention this whole escapade of planning a moment neither one of us will forget. He isn’t perfect, but he is definitely perfect for me. PS Sorry for 1) the length of this but it just wouldn’t do the story justice to cut it short and 2) my cheesy/dorky side is now completely unleashed now that we are engaged so watch out, folks! and 3) I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the love, support, and happiness you have shared for us!

Amazing, eh?  If you know someone getting married.  We’d love for you to share us with them!  We’d love to see if we are a good fit!
