Sister Get Together | Ka’anapali Family Photography

Meg here Just getting back from Maui where we had such an amazing opportunity to meet and shoot these gorgeous sisters!! With every event that we are hired to capture, it really is such an honor and privilege!! They definitely made our job ridiculously easy:-). These beautiful sisters in this beautiful setting, seriously? They stayed at the Aston Ka’anapali Shores Resort so we were able to hang out there and then we just headed straight down to the beach for some shots with the sunset.

I’ve never had a sister – but these gals made me want one!!! Nicole, your daughters amazing, way to go!!

I think this is where we asked for the ‘J Crew’ look, nailed it!!

Grants, Golf Lessons and Maui’s Finest!!

On our recent trip to Maui (above). We happened to be there at the same time as the PGA’s kick off tournament, The Tournament of Champions. Well we weren’t comfortable taking Grant to the official event but we decided to trek up the Kapalua’s Plantation course for the Pro-Am event. We saw a couple of golfers and a little bit of the event, but that wasn’t the highlight. The highlight was meeting David Havens. David is one of the pros at Ka’anapali Kai and more importantly he started a cool program called ‘Spare for Change‘. In the fan zone at the event, there were a couple different little area’s where all three of us could try out our golf swings, putting and even get a photo taken with a trophy. Golf Pro David was manning the area where you could try out your chipping prowess. We rolled up with Grant and he looked a little disappointed that he didn’t have any toddler size clubs. So he gave him a quick little lesson with the smallest club he had and then after asking if Grant had his own clubs offered this, ‘hey if you swing by the Ka’anapali, I can set you up with a couple of his very own clubs’. How cool is that? So when we arrived, David set him up with a toddler sized putter and some balls and sent us up to the practice green while he made another club for him. He met up with us handed Grant his own ‘grant sized’ Callaway Big Bertha and sent us off to the driving range to hit a bucket of balls on him. David was so generous and really made a memorable impact on Grant. Thanks David and all the best in your venture to put clubs and the game of golf in the hands of those that can’t otherwise have access to the game. You are awesome!!

Grant giving his new driver a swing! One of my most treasured gifts from my late grandpa is a Big Bertha golf club and I thought it was pretty neat that one of Grants first golf clubs was a Big Bertha as well!

Dana Little | Live at the Evantide Gallery

Meg and I had the privilege of hosting the amazingly talented Dana Little and a couple of her equally talented friends. Dana and I had been chatting for months about the possibility of her being able to share her music at our gallery. It was a couple weeks before Christmas so she shared some Christmas music mixed with songs from her album ‘Patterns’. Thanks Dana for joining us and for those that came, we hope you enjoyed and thanks for coming. If you weren’t able to make it, we may be in the works for another show to happen soon:-). The Importance of Photos | A Photographers Plea

I want to start by saying this isn’t a plea to hire us or any other photographer. Both as a professional and a friend consider these three things -

1. Take photos or get photos taken. Life happens (good and bad) and it’s great to have documentation of it for yourself and for future generations.

2. Create some redundancy in your digital files. What’s this mean? Put the files in more than one place. On your computer is great, but maybe buy an external hard drive (prices are dropping like crazy at places like Costco and online). If you want to be really safe, maybe even keep some in a location away from your home (offsite).

3. Print some photos from time to time. Computers are going to crash, hard drives are going to fail and discs are going to have issues sooner or later. Not only are prints nice to hold onto, touch and look at; they are also just one more way to have access to these memories and times in your life.

To be honest, this is something that I do well for our clients but I can do a lot better at for our family. In 2011, I made a specific effort to shoot, back up and even print some our families photos. Grant is a really amazing kiddo and we are absolutely loving this time with him (and I want that documented:-). When he’s 13 and loving to push back? Well maybe he’ll be perfect, but… nah, he’ll push back. It’ll be fun to look back on this time. It will also be fun when he is 50 to show him what things were like when he was a kid:-).

Part of what started this reflection was hearing that my Grandma is going to be placed in the care of Hospice in the coming days. Grant may not have known his Great Grandma Ilene but we have images of what was a symbolic meeting they had when he was an infant. Here is an excerpt from a blog post I did about their meeting:-).

A Pilots Homecoming | A First Meeting

One of the things I love about my job is that it’s meaningful. As indirectly as head shots that help a business owner to grow and flourish and as direct as literally capturing life and moments as they happen. Cathy and Adam hired us to do some maternity photos for them this summer before Adam headed off on his deployment and he was off, just a few short days later. While Adam was away serving our country, Cathy gave birth to their beautiful little boy Noah (Also here). It was fun to capture these images for Cathy to share with Adam. We were so grateful for these opportunities but we were blown away by what we were able to capture for them next. Cathy worked hard to get us clearance onto the base to capture Adam’s homecoming and subsequent first meeting of his baby boy. What an honor and blessing to be able to capture this time for them! I’m not saying this lightly, how cool is our job? Thank you Cathy for this opportunity, welcome Noah and welcome home Adam… Thanks for all the sacrifices that you made for us in what you do! Enjoy these homecoming and first meeting photos!!

All of the families ran outside to greet and welcome the soldiers. It was so chilly that night, that Cathy kind of held back to keep Noah warm as long as possible. Which made for this quieter moment of anticipation at the entryway to the hangar.

Brooke + Brad | Bellingham Golf and Country Club Wedding

Brooke and Brad… Kind, Caring and seriously Hilarious! Meg and I had such a great time photographing their wedding and kinda want to do it again… Hmm, but only if they marry each other again? Yes!! Less than two weeks until Saturday’s with Santa!! Which means some of the most fun we have all year and some of the most tired we’ll be all year (when we’re done:-). It is so fun to partner with Industrial Credit Union for our fourth year in a row to offer free Santa photos. Yep, that’s right… Free Santa Photo!! In the last three years many families have made us their must do activity as a pre-funk to Christmas.

As parents we are also excited for Grant to be able to get a shot with Santa as well:-). Here’s an outtake from last year. He was hesitant to be in Santa’s lap but boy was he comfy and cozy.

I feel like it’s safe to dub this next one ‘Best Santa Photo Ever’. Perfection, lol.

And these next two? Happiest kids to be in Santas lap. I’m so excited for the Christmas season to be here. Can’t wait to see y’all!!

The Stotts | Bellingham Photographer

As with the Stewarts below, it was great to re-connect with the Stotts family. The difference with this crew is that we’ve been able to capture them over the years, how cool is that? I think this is our 7th annual (Brenda, sound right?). Almost every time we have photographed these two they have been really shy, I take it personal sometimes:-). But Luke and Erica were ready for this shoot! It was almost like they knew us and like us, ha! Thanks Brenda and Terry for allowing us the privilege over the years to capture your beautiful family and congrats on it’s continued growth as well;-). Enjoy.

The Stewarts | Whatcom Family Photography

Why? This is the question I’ve not only been hearing so much recently but also a question that I’ve been asking. For me the ‘Why?’ is about our business and our art. Why do we do what we do? Why should people invest in our services? And why us? I think I want to do a blog post on just this soon. But looking through these images gives me plenty reason to do what I do. As with any family at any given time, the Stewarts family has been changing. Not only in numbers but in dynamics. So how cool is it, that we were able to capture this beautiful family on this day and at this time?

We say it, and we mean it at every family shoot… You two are parents, yes, but you are also still a couple. We hope for ourselves and for all the parental units in our shoots that they continue to also be a couple in love!!

Aah, what a beautiful family!
